The "Milky way" man, Saravanan

Image
A young boy delivers cow milk to our house, every single day; He is always a busy man, holding the milk-can as his baton, running door to door with lightening speed; Wearing a big, humble and genuine smile while he pours milk.  It is such a welcoming and innocent smile that we got quickly acquatinted and bonded with him in a matter of a month. On a leisurely Friday evening, while my Amma was busy searching for a milk container, I casually started engaging him with small talks. That young boy who looked like a school kid, I asked him, "Are you studying pa, is this a part time job?" He replied as a matter of fact, "No Akka (sister), I stopped studying after 10th and have been delivering milk from my school days" He enlisted a big list of apartments he delivers. He naughtily says, "Even if I go late, they won't scold me as am delivering them for a very long time from my 8th std." I ask him curiously, "Very long time and from 8th std?" That is wh...

Visual Treats and Thoughts#1

Image
Have you ever looked up the sky and imagined unique patterns and distinct shapes that sometimes appear only to your eye?  Or Cooked up your own imaginative stories by simply looking at the twinkling group of stars, intriguing moon and the ever moving clouds? I have had numerous fond memories of doing all of these with my dearest companion - my Appa.  Very often, me and Appa used to sit under the sky on a terrace or an open-to-sky corridor and talk our hearts out for hours together. Whenever we are out of topics, we spread our legs, sit comfortably, simply look up and gaze the sky up above.  Once I see some pattern of clouds, I get excited, form my own imagination and ask Appa what is his visual interpretation -  Adorable Elephants to Puffy teddy bears changing to Slow moving rabits, tiny tweeny mouse, hanging balls.. On these line of thoughts, We casually start talking about each other's imaginative stories, random philosophical thoughts by simply lo...

A Tender Coconut & a Grumpy Uncle

Image
After a sunny, tiresome and liberating morning run, I stopped by a tender coconut shop to quench my thirst. There was a vehicle parked lethargically right in the turning corner of a main road. To my best efforts, my scooty turned around and stopped in a corner. Meanwhile, one uncle was staring at me without a blink of eye. I completely ignored him, thinking it might be because of my running attire and my sweaty face.  After a while, tired of long time staring and lack of any acknowledgement from my end, that grumpy uncle started policing me by asking why my scooty had carelessly hit his dear, pathetically parked vehicle. I was completely taken aback! If at all, I had hit his vehicle, at the least I would have become aware of the slightest of the vibration of that so-called hitting of 2 vehicles. Simple law of physics, isn't it! I retorted him defending my dear scooty and that grumpy uncle replied back saying my scooty had slightly frictioned with the helmet hung on his vehicle. To ...

A Shrewd Kid & few Profound Resonations

Image
I have often heard of kids getting influenced by paying keen attention to the actions and words of the people around.  Witnessing it personally, I landed with so many other profound thoughts.  We (myself, a 4 year old kid, her 10 year old elder sister and their parents) were in a kids play area room where few toys were messily spread across the room.  While that kutty (little one) was playing happily along with her sister around the mess, her dad was expressing his genuine concern on how few kids are unaware of the self-discipline to keep the toys back to its original place and how parents should impart this important self-discipline to their kids. After a while, when we were about to leave, while it appeared as if that naughty kutty was still playing with the toys, to my utter delight and surprise, that little one was actually collecting all the toys from the messy ground to keep them back to it's original place AND in perfect order!    That little wonder had a...

What you give, comes back in multiple folds!

Image
"What we give, comes back multiple folds!" Though we all are fully aware of this quote, how many of us actually implement it on day-to-day lives?  I had a blessed opportunity to relearn this recently. We had gone to an outstation for the first time and the mode of transport within the city was mostly autos. Being a Chennaitte, its almost always a bitter experience with autowallas in our city with their high demand and harsh tones. Or So I thought or experienced thus far. We were in for a total surprise when we had to travel in autos within that new city ; Unexpectedly the first auto driver that we met, was surprisingly very friendly, courteous and extremely helpful - to an extent that even when he was asked to wait for a longer time or asked to return without picking us up. Similar pleasant experience with a second auto driver - he was narrating all his family stories, city stories, his loan etc etc. Twist is that we were charged double for a destination. I did no...
